The Delete Option

Sapphyre’s mom was grousing about her daughters desire to move from Norfolk on Facebook. She was using language i knew she would later think was excessive. I played the voice of moderation (which for those who know me is whimsical theater).

I said that while it was clear that the mom loved living in Norfolk, Sapphyre knew it was time to move on. And that her departure did not mean it was a poor choice for the mother.  Bettina jumped on my comment as reason to delete her original post.

Along with defriending people, until we ditch Facebook, i want to advocate a culture in which we readily delete threads which we feel in anyway uncomfortable or unhappy about.

[Turns out Bettina is not Sapphyre’s mom, just a friend playing that role]

LOL, to set the record straight, I deleted my comment(s) because what I was typing and what I was *trying* to say were not meshing. At all. My words hurt my friend and she called me on the phone. We talked for about 20 seconds and all was well. Your mediation was cool but the reason I deleted was out of respect for Sapphyre–because I believe that leaving negativity lurking around is a bad idea.
In other words, I totally agree with you 😉 but also want to say that when this kind of thing blows up I *REALLY* appreciate having a friend who is a big enough, good enough, open enough human being to pick up the phone and call and ask What The Fuck? (My words, not hers.)

That’s a cool thing about Facebook and other modern internet technologies. Unfortunately, years ago (like when I lived at Twin Oaks, for example) I wrote many things I regret online using technologies in which deleting was not an option.

Tina – you need to realize that i am more interested in a good story than the truth. And the beautiful thing this time is we got both – my falsely self aggrandizing one and your mensch/appreciation one.

Totally get that but when your platform has my name on it, I’m going to speak up =D
