First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

“Are you keeping it real?” the gas station attendant was doing this strange role reversal

“Certainly trying” i wondered if he would push further

“Like by doing what?” he asked, inviting me to jump in

“Well, i was just encouraging my girlfriend to get arrested” Not that Sara needed much encouragement

The other counter employee looked up in shock at my reply.

“What for?” he asked, clearly excited

“Occupying Wall Street, they are evicting tomorrow.”

Sara, Caroline, Edmund, Sabrina and Clementine  to heed the call and go up from Cville and Twin Oaks to support those who have been Occupying Wall Street for some weeks now.   The top cop of NYC has said the party is over and that a few hours after this post goes up protesters will be cleared and not allowed to return with camping supplies.  Of course, i wish i was there with them.

My gas station attendant new friend was engaged by our conversation.  He talked about the police brutality at the Occupy Boston.  i quipped i was from Boston, where we are famous for our police brutality.  When he asked me why i was not there, i told him i was busy fighting nukes.  But this is less than fully true.

When i came back and posted about these local heroes driving all night just to get beat up by the police, offers of support from people i barely knew in Manhattan started coming in.  “I cant be on the front lines, but they can stay at my place, sleep, shower, etc.”  One person wrote me.

Something is happening here.  Dont just stay tuned.  Figure out how to get involved.

The title of this post is an old Leonard Cohen song.

Don’t forget to take Washington, D.C. (or whatever town is nearby) on your way to Berlin.
