Dad would be proud
i was supposed to be a leader. i was breed and trained to be a captain of industry or head of state. My grand mother thought i would be governor. Nearly everyone i went to college with thought i would go to law school afterwards. My dad wanted me to get an MBA.
My dad was a small businessman, he knew i would not become an architect like he was, but he thought there was a good chance that i would run some business, probably at an executive level. And this week he would be right.
Our little hammocks management team did great work this week. We made our production goal for the 7th week in a row avoiding quota increases. Hawina and i have been juggling lots of stuff, especially because Helm and Shal have been sick or gone and less than full strength. We got samples in of this new hammock which we are making or this unusual outfit in Wisconsin called Buyers Choice. They are beautiful.
This internet vendor is aggressively pricing these colorful custom designs. i predict we are going to make a bunch of them and we are going to have other communities (like Little Flower and Baker Branch) assemble the harnesses and tie off the hx for us. We are going to make a higher dollar per hour in hx than we have in a long time.
It is worth talking about what Buyers Choice is doing right. They are buying top of the line fabrics (Sunbrella), and they are buying the least expensive designs of these. They have chosen bright colors and some handsome stripes. Unlike our current biggest customer, that marks up our price by 100% and puts a lot of money into search engine optimization. This new customer is accepting a much smaller mark up and vending to a very large and diverse number of internet sites. I am betting on the discounter, and if the bet pans out we will be busy trying to find other communities in the area to make hammocks for us. A high class problem.
Wonderful! Hammocks are my favorite farm work– yay for their resurgence!
Pax, you are–indeed–a leader!
