“They don’t even have enough respect for us to come and kill us themselves.”

Afghani civilians know the US military is going to kill them. After years of war, this much is to be expected. But now we will not even send our soldiers into their country to kill them as they sleep, or work, or go to school. We are sending machines to do our dirty work. Something about the way these folks, who recently spoke with Nick Mattern of KnowDrones on a conference call, had resigned themselves to death by US military, and seemed offended now only that we wouldn’t kill them in person, struck me as especially tragic.

“And what your military doesn’t realize,” Nick was also told, “is that for every person killed by a drone, 10 more want to kill you.”
